Behind The Brand // Mi Goals

It's that time of year again - Christmas trees are going up, people are writing their gift wish lists and I'm thinking about which diary to get for next year. It's no secret I love all things paper and stationery, so choosing a new diary is just a little bit exciting. I've been using Mi Goals diaries for the past 2 years, so it was a no brainer going with them again. Today on the blog we chat to Adam, the founder of Mi Goals, about their new 2018 range, goal setting and tips for staying inspired.

For those who don't know about Mi Goals, tell us a little bit about how the business began...
The business began as I couldn't find a product in the market that fulfilled my needs of writing and tracking my goals. It got to the point where I basically said, if its not out there I am going to make it for myself. From there it was a matter of designing the book, getting it printed and then actually using the product to test how well it worked. Obviously it worked well and the next idea was to sell the goals diary to a select few bookstores that we targeted as suitable stockists.

What do you love the most about running Mi Goals?
I love the fact that we're building a business and brand that doesn’t simply sell a product, but more importantly inspires and helps people achieve their goals and live inspired lives. That's a powerful thing for us and really inspires us to get bigger and empower as many people we can around the world.

And what is the most challenging aspect?
I guess for us the most challenging thing is that it's a lean team we're running, so there is a lot of things each of us need to be across and get done. In an ideal world it would be great to be able to focus on more specific things, but with any growing business sometimes you need to wear multiple hats.

What is your favourite thing about the new range?
I love the Goal Digger Planner, I think it's the best planner we've made since Mi Goals began. Everything about it is awesome and the layout and flow of it really encourages people to stick to their goals and be constantly working on achieving them.

How do you go about choosing colours for new products?
We do our research in terms of what colours are trending and what colours are going to be popular in the near future. We also check our own data and make decisions based on what colours have been popular in the past. Lastly, we sometimes choose colours based off gut instinct and what we personally like as individuals and as a team.

What do you recommend people look for when finding a new diary for the year?
Finding a diary layout that works for your lifestyle is important, but also finding a diary that helps you grow and make progress on the life you want to live is something I believe is super important. Sure, most diaries help you become more organised, but we also want people to be inspired and making progress towards their goals.

Your advice for staying motivated and inspired?
I love the quote from Zig Ziglar which sums up my thoughts about staying motivated and inspired, he says: "People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."

And lastly, what are your top 3 tips for goal setting?
1. Set goals you're passionate about - When you set goals you actually want to achieve, the chances of achieving them increases dramatically.

2. Write your goals down - The fact is, the human brain has approximately 50,000 thoughts per day, thus when you write your goals down you actually focus on what you need to be doing instead of having your goals in your head along with all your other thoughts

3. Take consistent action - Having the perfect plan doesn’t matter unless you're taking action and making progress day in, day out.
